Manufacturing Capabilities
What Eastern Mills Can Actually Make
Eastern Mills is a manufacturer, not a trading house. Every stage of production runs in-house in Bhadohi, India: yarn spinning, dyeing, weaving, finishing and export container loading. Established 1947, third generation, 2,000+ people working in-house, exporting to 40+ countries.
Vertical Integration
Most rug suppliers in India broker finished goods made by independent weavers. Eastern Mills owns each stage instead, across 35 acres: a 50,000 SQM main facility on 20 acres plus a dedicated 15-acre broadloom facility.
- 1
Yarn spinning
Our own spinning plant, running 4 spinning cards. We spin the wool that goes into our rugs rather than buying it on the open market, so fibre quality, blend consistency and twist are controlled from the start.
- 2
Dyeing
In-house for all sampling and custom rugs, which is what makes fast and accurate custom colour matching possible.
- 3
Weaving
2,000+ people working in-house across hand-knotting, hand-tufting, handloom and flatweave.
- 4
Finishing
Washing, clipping, binding and final quality control in-house.
- 5
Container loading
Export containers are loaded at our own facility.
For buyers this means custom colour and blend development without third-party dependency, consistent quality between sampling and bulk, one accountable party for the whole order, and no margin stacking from middlemen.

Who We Produce For
Volume and private label
Handloom, pitloom and hand-tufted lines run at programme scale, with consistent quality between sampling and bulk because the same facility spins, dyes, weaves and finishes.
Design houses and brands
In-house design and sampling, custom colour matching and bespoke blends. The archive means an existing construction can be adapted rather than reinvented.
High-end and bespoke
Hand-knotted work from 100 to 400 KPSI in wool, silk, cashmere, mohair and alpaca, made to specification in custom sizes.
Hospitality and contract
Broadloom and area rugs for hotels, resorts, cruise and commercial interiors, produced on a dedicated 15-acre broadloom facility.
Common Questions
Is Eastern Mills a manufacturer or a trading house?
A manufacturer. Eastern Mills owns each stage of production: yarn spinning on its own spinning cards, dyeing for all sampling and custom rugs, weaving, finishing, and export container loading. Most rug suppliers in India buy finished goods from independent weavers; Eastern Mills does not.
How large is the design library?
9,875 designs across 31 distinct constructions and 145 fibres, built continuously since 1947. Historic samples, constructions and qualities are held in-house and can be re-created, adapted or re-coloured for a new project.
Does Eastern Mills specialise in wool?
Yes. Wool appears in 6,363 of 9,875 designs, 64% of the library. New Zealand wool is spun in-house and the sourcing is Responsible Wool Standard certified.
Can Eastern Mills handle volume programmes as well as high-end pieces?
Both. Hand-knotted production at 100-400 KPSI serves premium and bespoke work, while handloom, pitloom, hand-tufted and broadloom lines carry volume and contract programmes. MOQ is 150-200 sqm per design per colour.
Which certifications does Eastern Mills hold?
ISO 9001:2015, GoodWeave International, SEDEX Member, Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Global Recycled Standard (GRS), SA8000, C-TPAT.
How do design houses and brands work with Eastern Mills?
Through custom development: in-house design and sampling, custom colour matching backed by in-house dyeing, and custom blends developed to order. Lead times are roughly 130 days for hand-knotted and 120 days for hand-tufted or handloom, with expedited production available.
